Jennifer Lopez Talks Top Beauty and Holiday Gifting Tips and Ideas 2024
Jennifer Lopez knows a thing or two about maintaining an effortless glow. The actress, singer, and beauty founder has quite literally bottled her red carpet-level skin and body- care routines with her eponymous brands JLo Beauty and JLo Body.
Lopez says these staples not only enhance skin hydration and radiance but also inform an ongoing self-care routine, especially with the business of the holidays. As for one of her family’s favorite seasonal dishes? “Vanilla flan is our traditional go-to dessert for the holidays,” she tells Bazaar.
For a little gifting guidance, we caught up with the Unstoppable star to learn more about some of her current beauty and wellness favorites, along with the go-to stocking stuffers she recommends adding to your shopping list. Plus, Lopez shares exclusive tips on creating the perfect nude lip for your next fête.
One of the makeup looks you’re well-known for wearing is a signature nude lip. Do you have any tips for readers looking to find their perfect lip combination for the holidays?
Yes, yes, I love a simple yet glowing nude lip. I’ll usually do a natural nude and sometimes a little brighter pink. I like to use my Make Up for Ever lip pencil. They have a range of colors that makes it easy to find the right shade for you, since everyone is different. The key is finding a color that’s going to emphasize your lips but not be too dark. I think sometimes we think that a darker lip liner is better, but honestly, a lighter one is what’s going to make your lips look bigger and more plump. I also only line the outer part of my lips, and not all the way to the edges, which gives them that centered, pouty look.
Next, I take my JLo Beauty Beso Balm and slather it on top of the liner to hydrate the lips and give them a visibly plumper look while smoothing fine lines. And then, I put on a nice shiny gloss in a subtle tint to finish off the look. I have tons of glosses that I like to use from Fenty Beauty, YSL Beauty, and drugstore brands; I don’t care. Whenever I see a lip gloss I like, I just get it. I don’t care where it’s from. I just try to make sure they all have a little tint, the same as with the pencil. Again, it’s important to find the right shades for you and that they complement each other. The products should look almost the same shade when you put them on so they blend nicely together.
Along with a dry brush, what other beauty tools do you use regularly?
Well, as you mentioned, dry brushing is my number-one favorite. It has so many benefits for the skin on our body. I love it so much that I added one to our Ultimate Body Kit for the holidays as one of the free gifts you get with it.
I’d also have to say a gua sha is another tool I always use. I typically use one with serum or oil. I know they’re everywhere now and super trendy, but I find them to be really worth the time if you learn how to use them correctly. The tools function similarly to dry brushing by increasing blood flow. And who knows? You might even see one coming for JLo Beauty. We’ll see.
If you could only spend $25 on a holiday gift, what would you buy?
I would definitely buy my Beso Balm lip mask. It’s the perfect little stocking stuffer, and someone can use it every day and night. Plus, it smells like vanilla flan, which is perfect for the holidays. But I can give you another gift idea, because why not? We all need that extra pampering. You can also get our JLo Deluxe Kit, which comes with the cutest little travel pouch and the That Limitless Glow sheet-mask set for free. Take that and add in the Beso Balm and you’ve got a four-piece gift for someone under $25. Done.
I know staying hydrated is extremely important to you, which is one of the reasons why your JLo Beauty Head-to-Toe Glow Kit includes a bonus bling cup. Around how many styles of bling cups do you rotate through each week?
That’s a two-part question. First of all, yes, hydration is incredibly important to me. I think it’s a beauty and skincare secret that people don’t use enough. When I’m hydrated, I feel energized and I can perform at my best, whether I’m onstage or at the gym. I think drinking enough water is its own little self-care ritual that I make time for every day. And the bling cup just reminds me to drink water. It’s one of those simple things that make a huge difference in how I look and feel.
You have to keep hydrated, so you might as well do it in style. And everywhere I go, wherever I take my bling cup, there’s not a person who doesn’t comment on it. They say, “Oh my gosh, I want one of those!” so they become gifts that I give away, and that’s why we’ve added it to the kit. So, yes, I do have a lot of bling cups—way too many, and they’re all over the house. It’s a habit now, but I do have my favorites, though. The reason I have so many is because every time I do a new project, my team will get one made with the new movie on it, with the new tour on it, whatever it is. So, I have a ton of them in all sorts of colors and designs, and somehow I use them all.
