Liz Yelenic, owner of Unruly Salon & Spa in downtown Lorain, has a passion for beautiful hair

For Liz Yelenic, hairstyling is more than just a career.

It is a calling.

As the owner of Unruly Salon & Spa, 725 Broadway in downtown Lorain, Yelenic has spent the last four years creating a space where luxury meets comfort.

Running the business alongside her mother and co-owner, Nancy Bruce, Yelenic has found a way to blend her passion for beauty with her commitment to family and community.

“I always knew I wanted my business to be in Lorain on Broadway,” she said. “I never had any doubt.

“I’m so happy I did it. It is one of the best choices I have ever made.”

Unruly Salon & Spa was born from Yelenic’s desire to balance her love for hairstyling with raising her children.

“I have been doing hair for 17 years,” she said. “I did not always know I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but after having kids, I wanted to do more while staying involved in their lives.

“When I started, there was not the same understanding of work-life balance as there is now.”

Yelenic said her day begins at home, getting her children ready for school before transitioning to work mode.

She and her mother split shifts, with one opening the salon and the other closing it.

Yelenic said she also sets aside time each week for administrative tasks and looks for ways to enhance the experience for both clients and staff.

“I focus on providing a great workspace for our stylists and constantly work with them on how we can improve the environment for both employees and clients,” she said.

Unruly Salon & Spa offers hair services for men and women, emphasizing healthy hair and high-quality service in a welcoming and relaxed setting.

“Our main focus is healthy hair,” Yelenic said. “We do a lot of color and cuts.

“We use luxury tools and products, but we also want people to feel like they belong. Clients can bring their kids, husbands and family. It is a comfortable atmosphere with a luxurious feel.”

Beyond the salon, Yelenic said she is committed to uplifting the community.

“I love this community, and we try our hardest to get involved and give back wherever we can,” she said. “It can be challenging because we spend so much time behind the chair, but that remains a priority for us.”
