Sandra Bullock’s Anti-Aging Skincare Routine

With her signature brunette locks and megawatt smile, Sandra Bullock looks just as striking at age 60 as she did at 36 (when she starred in the 2000 blockbuster, Miss Congeniality). But it’s not just her outward appearance that shines, Bullock also has a huge heart. She uses her star power to help promote causes she believes in, making generous donations to organizations like The Red Cross. Plus, she is a single mom to son Louis, 15, and daughter Laila, 11. So, it comes as no surprise that in 2015, at 50 years old, Bullock was selected as People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World.

Curious how America’s sweetheart manages to keep up her stunning appearances even after three decades in the spotlight? Read on.

She’s a minimalist when it comes to skincare.

In speaking to InStyle Magazine in 2000, Bullock said she prefers to keep things minimal with her beauty routine, “I use a face cloth and Artistry cream.” In addition to minimal products, she also doesn’t devote too much time to her routine. When speaking to Marie Claire UK, she admitted that her “entire routine takes eight minutes.”

But she’s not afraid to experiment with beauty treatments.

At the London premiere of Miss Congeniality 2, Bullock shared, “my favorite beauty-pageant secret: I didn’t realize that putting hemorrhoid ointment on your face is acceptable in the beauty business. But apparently butt cream does help lines around the eyes.” Who knew!

Bullock never namechecked the exact ointment in her routine, but Preparation H is a WH editor-favorite that’s infused with a trifecta of soothing aloe, moisturizing vitamin E, and anti-inflammatory panthenol.

…or trendy facials.

While on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018 promoting Ocean’s Eight, Bullock said that she has tried the Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) facial—or the “Penis Facial” as she referred to it—administered by celebrity facialist Georgia Louise. According to various medical journals, EGF is a protein that is naturally occurring in human skin and helps produce collagen and elastin to keep the skin looking taught. As we age, we begin to lose the EGF we were born with. Bullock explained to Ellen’s audience that the EGF serum is applied to the skin and then gone over with a micro-needling pen.

“It pushes through the skin, ruptures the collagen and boosts it and you look like a burn victim for a day,” Bullock said. And for the results? Louise told People, “In [Sandra’s] case, the effect of the procedure seems to work great.” She also added, “I wanted to give Sandra something that would change her skin without having to go through the lasers and would provide long-term results.”

She exfoliates once a week.

When speaking to Vogue Australia in 2018, celebrity aesthetician Mila Moursi, who has worked with Sandra Bullock, shared that all her clients cleanse daily as part of their skincare routine and exfoliate at least once a week, “exfoliating, liberating your pores clogged from pollution and oils [is important].”

She embraces her wavy hair texture.

Bullock’s signature brunette tresses are au natural, a look she tends to embrace for films and the red carpet. “Her hair is just naturally thick and beautiful with a wave. I mean, when we make a ponytail, it’s two to three inches thick. She just has really good hair,” Lona Vigi, the lead hair stylist for Ocean’s 8 told The Cut in 2018.

What it is: A luxurious light oil that absorbs instantly to restore hair to its prime. What it does: Infused with a rich blend of jasmine, edelweiss flower, lychee, sandalwood, cassis, bergamot and argan extracts, each protective drop penetrates the hair to deeply condition, strengthen and smooth, imparting intense nourishment and incredible shine to hair. It provides thermal protection, won’t weight hair down and detangles and reduces frizz. It also works wonders on dry, damaged and color-treated hair.” /

Vigi and Bullock began working together 25 years ago on the set of Miss Congeniality. The two teamed up again for the sequel, and in Oceans 8. Bullock’s character, Debbie Ocean, rocked effortlessly cool textured tresses. Vigi would curl random bits of hair and apply a mix of Oribe Gold Lust Oil and Rodin Hair Oil to Bullock’s hairline and ends to achieve a unique wavy and curly look. She also reached for a cult-classic $16 hairspray. “Sandy likes to see airy and bits of wave — I pretty much used Elnett,” said Vigi.

She’s dedicated to a fitness routine.

The star’s always toned physique is another contributing factor to not looking her age. When asked how she stays in shape, Bullock told InStyle, “I do Pilates, kickboxing, weight training. When I’m in Austin, I run or ride a bike. If I can work out every day, I will.” According to Trevante Rhodes, who starred in Bird Box with Bullock, the actress takes fitness very seriously. “The truth is, before set everyday, she would show up in her workout [apparel].”

She dances it out on the regular.

Stress can cause havoc on all facets of our lives, not to mention our skin. And there is no question that celebrities have added stressors with constantly being in the limelight. To recenter herself, Bullock told InStyle, “at the end of every week I throw on a pair of jeans, take my hair down, and find someplace to just dance, even if it’s by myself. That’s my therapy.”
